Complementary Therapy

What are Complementary Therapies?

Complementary Therapies are gentle, highly effective treatments that can help revitalise, relax and reduce stress. Our treatments at Mary Ann Evans Hospice are delivered by experienced, qualified therapists and our aim is to support the treatment and care that is being provided to you by your clinical staff and medical team. They are not an alternative to your clinical treatment.

Complementary Therapies can offer you some precious self care time and are available free of charge to patients and their families under the care of the Hospice.

Treatments are usually between 20 and 40 minutes long and you are able to request the treatment is stopped at any time.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

This is a chance for you to get to know your therapist and for the therapist to assess your needs and ensure treatments are safe and appropriate for you.

Treatments offered

Massage

Massage is a hands-on therapy designed to promote relaxation and ease tension. It can help relieve aches and pains, reduce stress, and improve overall wellbeing. Massage also enhances the benefits of essential oils, which are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. Your therapist will discuss your needs to decide the best areas to focus on, such as the back, neck, shoulders, legs, or feet.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to support emotional and physical health. Your therapist will create a personalised blend using essential and carrier oils to deliver a soothing massage. These oils can uplift, relax, or energise depending on your needs. An aromastick inhaler may also be made to take home, helping extend the benefits of the treatment into your daily routine.

Reflexology

Reflexology involves applying gentle pressure to specific points on the feet or hands. This encourages deep relaxation, improves energy flow, and supports the body’s natural healing process. Reflexology may also help maintain balance within the body and enhance overall wellbeing. It’s a gentle and effective way to reduce stress and promote a sense of calm.
